The 2018 Aerospace & Defense Supplier Summit (Aeromart Seattle) is a supply chain event that brings together aerospace and defense primes, tier suppliers and contract manufacturers. The event took place at the Washington State Convention Center, United States from the 26th to 28th of March 2018 where the trade days (one-to-one meetings) were from the 27th to 28th of March 2018. Aeromart Seattle is a platform for buyers and sellers to have focused engagements without the distractions of traditional exhibitions.
Aeromart Seattle 2018 attracted many aerospace players based in North America both in commercial and military segments. It was the ideal platform for UMWD to promote UMW High Value Manufacturing Park primarily to companies involved in the Boeing supply chain potentially looking to have a presence in the South East Asian (SEA) region. UMWD managed to have scheduled meetings with major companies such as FACC, Latecoere, Liebherr and Stelia, as well as some smaller companies across the different tiers of the Boeing supply chain.
While the general awareness of Malaysia remains relatively low amongst the US-based companies, there is interest from companies to explore business opportunities in SEA, although this may not necessarily indicate an immediate setup requirement. However, with Boeing’s increased purchases from SEA (as demonstrated by Spirit Aerosystem’s expansion in Malaysia), these companies are anticipating more activities around this region. Continuous engagement with the promising companies is key.
Following Aeromart Seattle, UMWD visited Silicon Valley to meet with California-based technology companies with the help of MIDA San Jose. The objectives of the visit are to better understand the activities of companies related to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) infrastructure, as well as to discuss with them the strategy to attract high-technology investors into UMW High Value Manufacturing Park.
