As part of the collaboration framework outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with MIDA, UMW Development was invited to Europe to participate in the MIDA Trade and Investment Mission (TIM) between 17th and 24th October. The cities visited during this trip were Hamburg (Germany), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), and Stockholm (Sweden). The trip was led by Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, the Minister of International Trade and Investment (MITI) and accompanied by Dato’ Azman Mahmud, the CEO of MIDA. The full delegation consisted of investment promotion agencies from different states in Malaysia. Alongside the agencies were special economic corridors as well as other development projects of national interest.
MIDA TIM Europe 2017 was positioned to target general investors across all sectors. Hence, the main focus for UMW Development during this trip was to engage with the European Business Chambers and Councils and they are instrumental in facilitating European investments into Malaysia. This allowed UMW Development to establish a long-term working relationship with these chambers and councils. This came in at a time when they saw an increased demand from their respective member companies to explore APAC markets with South East Asia as the primary focus.
